This UX case study rigorously adheres to the Design Thinking Framework, meticulously crafted in alignment with the rigorous standards set forth by the Google UX course.

While it may not be based on actual client work, it has been immensely valuable to me as it provided an opportunity to fully utilize the Design Thinking framework.

This exercise has not only deepened my understanding of UX principles but has also allowed me to demonstrate my proficiency in applying these methodologies to solve complex problems.

The Problem

The leading causes of death in the world by far are cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

Is there a way to prevent them?

National health services recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle by eating a healthy diet that helps control cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as exercising regularly.

The hectic lifestyle that most adults practice doesn't help, because when there is no time to prepare healthy food or even to eat a healthy diet, it's not always easy. That is why many people fall into a spiral of unhealthy dietary intake.

In addition, those who want to make a change in their lives are faced with a huge amount of disparate information that makes them feel overwhelmed which discourages and demotivates them.

The Solution

Create an easy to use and follow nutrition app, that helps adults to improve their nutrition with a supportive community encouraging people to make healthier choices.

My Responsibilities

  • Conducting interviews

  • Create Wireframes

  • Low and high-fidelity prototyping

  • Conducting usability studies

  • Accounting for accessibility

  • Iterating on designs

UNDERSTANDING THE USER

  1. User Research

To start with the research phase I thinked about which user will use the app.

The research helped me to found out that most of the users of the apps related to healthy nutrition are between the ages of 18 and 45, so I decided to interview at least 5 persons at this age range. I checked reviews on similar apps & services to gather data which I used to  develop interview questions, which were then used to conduct user interviews done through usertesting.com

Most interview participants goal are sticking to healthy food to have strong health. It’s obvious that there's a lack of knowledge about nutrition facts. They tend to stop healthy diet because there's no motivation, that’s why they need help from others, community helps them moving forward seeking good health.

  2. Personas

After research, I decided to create a persona who can represent goals and frustrations from the interviewed users, a persona who is into an age range of 18-45 years who's willing to acquire a deepen knowledge on healthy nutrition, and this knowledge drives her to cook great recipes breaking unhealthy patterns.

  1. User Journey Map

The user journey map will help understand the experiences a user will achieve for a specific goal.

  1. Problem Statement

I used a problem statement to define and understand the user problem and to find and implement an effective solution.

Anne is a busy accountant worried about her family nutrition, who needs an easy way to learn about nutrition and cook healthy recipes because she wants to avoid her and her family's risks of suffering diseases.

My solution should deliver a way to keep the user committing to learn healthy nutrition with multiple recipes that they can easily cook all in one place.

  2. Competitive Audit

An audit of a few competitor’s products provided direction on gaps and opportunities to address with the Foodify app.

Click to view the full competitive audit.

  1. Ideation

The ideation exercise help me to come up with ideas for how to address gaps identified in the competitive audit.

My focus was specifically on design a simplified & visually appealing interface that helps the user to explore topics and recipes easily.

STARTING THE DESIGN

  1. Wireframes & LoFi Prototype

The goal is to design a homepage where users can find all the info needed, as well as to encourage the user to learn more and cook new recipes. This will engage the user to grow their knowledge. To prepare for usability testing, I created a low-fidelity prototype that connected the user flow of the learning path.
